Note: Indian Nationals can obtain short stay visa for a period ranging from one to ninety days, valid for all countries of the Schengen Territory

Schengen Member States: Austria, Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden & Switzerland.

The Schengen Convention allows for freedom of circulation. Foreigners with valid stay permits from a Schengen state can re-enter with a valid passport, travel document, and a multiple entry visa.

Visa Application Guidelines:
- Apply at the consulate of the country of main stay
- If visiting multiple countries, apply to the one where you will stay the longest
- If the main destination is unclear, apply to the consulate of the first port of entry
- Long term visas must be applied for at the destination country's consulate

Note: Machine readable visas will not be affixed on passport pages already containing such visas. At least one blank double page is required.

Note: Ensure travel documents (air ticket, invitation, insurance, and cover letter) have matching dates

Biometric Requirement:
From 2 November 2015, biometric data (fingerprints and digital photo) is required for all Schengen short-term visa applicants. This applies for 5 years after first submission. Subsequent applications can reuse data.

Exempt from fingerprinting:
- Children under 12
- Individuals physically unable to provide fingerprints
- Royals, Heads of State, and government members on official travel

Tourist Visa Requirements for Belgium:
- Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond visa expiry date, with at least one double blank page (front and back). Passports valid for over 10 years not accepted.
- Photocopy of valid passport (first and last page), including any valid USA/UK/Canada/Australia/Schengen visas issued in the past 3 years, even if in a cancelled passport.
- One completed and signed visa application form
- Two photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) with white background and 70–80% face coverage, 600 dpi quality. One glued, one attached with a paper clip
- Cover letter explaining purpose of visit with contact/address details of host or accommodation
- Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation, etc.)
- Proof of travel booking (ticket reservation)
- Financial proof:
- Bank statements (last 3 months)
- Income Tax Returns (last 3 years)
- Salary slips (last 3 months)
- Travel medical insurance covering €30,000 minimum, valid in all Schengen countries, signed by applicant
- Minors (under 18) travelling alone: parental/guardian consent
- School letter confirming leave or holiday, and parental consent if under 21
- Foreign nationals in India: valid permit to return to India
- Apply at least 3 weeks before travel
- Submission and collection can be done by applicant or authorized person with ID and authorization letter
- Embassy may request additional documents or personal appearance
- Personal address must be provided. Passport will not be couriered to travel agency addresses
- From 27 Jan 2015, third-party passport collection allowed only for immediate family, a group representative, or official representatives (with proper ID and authorization letter)

Business Visa Requirements for Belgium:
- Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond visa expiry date, with at least one double blank page (front and back). Passports valid for over 10 years not accepted.
- Photocopy of valid passport (first and last page), including any valid USA/UK/Canada/Australia/Schengen visas issued in the past 3 years, even if in a cancelled passport.

- Cover letter from Indian organization stating applicant’s designation, purpose of visit, itinerary, and host company details
- Travel reservation (onward/return ticket)

- Income Tax Returns (last 3 years)
- PAN card copy
- Salary slips (last 3 months)
- Travel medical insurance covering €30,000 minimum, valid in all Schengen countries, signed by applicant
- Submission and collection can be done by applicant or authorized person with ID and authorization letter
- Personal address must be provided. Passport will not be couriered to travel agency addresses

Student Visa Requirements for Belgium:
- Completed and signed application form
- Two recent passport-size photographs (35–45 mm)
- Valid passport (minimum 3 months validity beyond stay)
- Admission letter from a Belgian university/institution
- Proof of payment of tuition fees
- Proof of accommodation in Belgium
- Proof of financial means to support stay (approx. €1,000 per month)
- Overseas medical insurance with minimum €30,000 coverage
- Academic certificates and transcripts
- Motivation letter and study plan
- Police clearance certificate (may be required)
- Flight itinerary/reservation
- Applicant may be asked for additional documents or an interview

Transit Visa Requirements for Belgium:
- Completed and signed visa application form
- Valid passport (minimum 3 months validity beyond stay)
- Confirmed air ticket for onward journey
- Valid visa (if required) for the final destination
- Proof of travel insurance with minimum €30,000 coverage
- Proof of financial means
- Applicant may be asked for additional documents or an interview
